Advanced Center of Electronic Devices and Materials
ACEDM is based in ENG III and provides a shared device-fabrication and research platform spanning semiconductor thin-film epitaxy, micrometer-scale pattern definition, and back-end bonding and packaging.
How the center supports research
- Shared equipment, cleanroom space, and process-support services in one research environment.
- Infrastructure for NTHU research, academic–industry collaboration, and cross-disciplinary projects.
- Training and qualification pathways that make equipment use safer and more reproducible.
Space and governance
The center operates across the 1F, 2F, and rear-building 3F areas of ENG III. Equipment access, qualification requirements, and current availability are governed by the relevant equipment notice and booking record.
The founding committee included Professors Shang-Da Yang, Chao-Hui Yeh, Chang-Hua Liu, and Ching-Yuan Huang.
Sustainable operation
- Technical progress: prioritize forward-looking, interdisciplinary, and high-demand process and characterization tools.
- Shared resources: prioritize equipment that can serve multiple research teams and encourage knowledge exchange.
- Balanced operation: use academic–industry collaboration and a reasonable fee structure to support long-term operation.
Equipment review and retirement
The current management principles evaluate equipment by innovation, shared use, and contribution to operating sustainability. Equipment with no recorded use for six consecutive months, or fewer than 100 cumulative hours in twelve months, may be classified as low utilization and considered for fee adjustment or retirement review.
